Chicago - A message from the station manager

Another Beachwood Special Report

Rahm Emanuel says he’ll do The Tonight Show with new host Jimmy Fallon if Fallon agrees to come to Chicago and take the Polar Plunge.
The Beachwood has learned, however, that that isn’t Rahm’s only stipulation. Here’s what else he’s demanding:
* Fallon must contribute to Rahm’s Children’s Fund.
* Fallon must do at least three overtime shifts for the CPD.
* Fallon not allowed to set foot in Scott Waguespack’s ward or appear anywhere with Bob Fioretti.

Open SCOTUS!

By The Coalition For Court Transparency

Citing long lines outside the Supreme Court and the millions of Americans who are interested in and affected by the Court’s decisions but unable to see cases being argued, a new alliance of media and legal organizations from across the political spectrum Tuesday launched an ad campaign calling on the justices to allow cameras to televise oral arguments.
The alliance, the Coalition for Court Transparency, is taking the unprecedented step of using a television ad to draw attention to the lack of transparency in this powerful branch of government and urge the justices to change this outdated restriction.

The Dave Savini Saga

By Steve Rhodes

In his recent DUI case, Channel 2’s investigative reporter went from defiant to apologetic – maybe – in a hurry. Let’s take a look.
Headline: CBS 2 Chicago Reporter Charged With DUI, Battery
Date: January 4
Source: Daily Herald
Key Excerpt:
“CBS 2 Chicago investigative reporter Dave Savini was arrested Saturday in Naperville and now faces misdemeanor charges including battery, driving under the influence of alcohol, and endangering the life of a child after he left the scene of a minor traffic accident, officials said.
“Savini, who lives in Naperville, was arrested about 12:20 a.m. after a minor accident that took place in the parking lot of Taco Bell at 75th Street and Rickert Drive, Naperville police said.
The driver of the other vehicle told police that he wanted to report the collision to police, but Savini refused, Cmdr. Lou Cammiso said. The driver said Savini pushed him when he took a photograph of Savini’s license plate with his phone, Cammiso said.”

Public Service Announcement: Don’t Bother Clearing Your Porn-Loving Browser History Before Going On WGN

Viral Media Teaching Wrong Lesson

“[On Monday], WGN in Chicago aired a report about students developing an app that will help you expunge your criminal record,” Gawker reports.
“Great idea! Another good idea? Clearing your browsing history of any links to masturbation videos before going on the local news.”
Gawker’s link to the WGN report now redirects to the station’s home page, so it appears the report has been taken down.
But as we all should know by now, nothing can ever truly be removed from the Internet.

McGruff The Crime Dog Gets 16 Years For Pot And Guns

By RT

“McGruff the Crime Dog may have always told kids to ‘take a bite out of crime,’ but apparently the actor who played him took a big bite into crime: John Morales has been sentenced to 16 year in prison for amassing large stashes of drugs and weapons.
“The actor who portrayed the anti-crime bloodhound was pulled over for speeding by Galveston, Texas police in 2011, when drug-sniffing dogs (not named McGruff) noticed something off.
“Police then raided Morales’ home and discovered 1,000 marijuana plants, 27 weapons – including a grenade launcher – and 9,000 rounds of ammunition. RT’s Meghan Lopez looks at what a bad dog Morales really was.”

Sochi Sour Grapes: Western Media Wins Gold Medal For Buzz Killing

By RT

“In the days, weeks and even months leading up to the Sochi Winter Olympics of 2014, the Western mainstream media have been trying to ruin the excitement by picking apart every tiny – often made-up – flaw they could lay their hands on – from strange toilets to hiking up paranoia over explosives being brought in in toothpaste tubes.”

Dislike: Friday Night Tykes

By i9 Sports

I have a great story for you about a major drama playing out right here in local youth sports leagues. On one side – a controversial new reality show – Friday Night Tykes which is gaining national and local attention because it glorifies extreme pressure on kids to win at all costs. On the other side – a local youth sports league which goes against the current by returning youth sports to its roots with the focus on fun and good sportsmanship.
i9 Sports, the first and fastest growing youth sports league franchise, with leagues in our area, offers an experience that’s COMPLETELY OPPOSITE of the violence and viciousness of the Esquire Network’s new hit reality show – Friday Night Tykes. The show features a young football team bullied by coaches to crush, destroy and win at all costs – despite who gets hurt. i9 Sports focuses on kids having fun and the lifelong lessons of teamwork (reasons parents in our area choose the i9 Sports Experience over the yelling, bullying and rough play you see on this divisive show.)
