Here’s a thread from this morning “unrolled” for you about the possible commutation of Rod Blagojevich’s sentence.
Even considering commuting #Blagojevich‘s sentence is privileging him over the tens of thousands of other prisoners – many of whom’s cases really are questionable at best and should be reconsidered – because he made himself into a celebrity in an attempt to taint the jury pool.

Media members joining in this advocacy show their empathetic alignment with those they cover – versus those they don’t, people they simply don’t care about, people truly ground up by the criminal justice system and not doing their bids at a Club Fed.

Supporting a commutation also puts you on the side of enabling Trump’s abuse of the whole system, including pardons of such noxious people like Joe Arpaio, Dinesh D’Souza, Scooter Libby and Conrad Black.

Appealing to Trump’s whim and political motives puts you on the wrong side of history, my friends. At least argue that Blago get a shot through a formal review, as it’s meant to be. Otherwise, you’ve just joined the extrajudicial other side.

It’s also not about what you “feel.” We don’t sentence folks based on your instinctive, frankly ignorant feel. There are federal guidelines, precedent, context, defendant’s truthfulness (or lack thereof), remorselessness …

He victimized all of us. He had to be removed from office. He ate up resources (time and money) that could’ve been far better spent. He paralyzed state government. And he denied it all, as he and his wife Patti continue to do, despite overwhelming evidence from his own mouth.

So many, many, many others whose cases we should consider instead; people who really deserve our empathy. But they’re just poor schmucks, not Trump playthings with media accomplices.
