“As the Chicago teachers strike enters its eighth day on Monday, both the Chicago Teachers Union and the city appear to be digging in, each side blaming the other for a failure to land a deal,” WBEZ reports.
Are both sides digging in, or is one side dug in and, in the mayor’s words, refusing to take yes for an answer? Just asking!

“The walkout has now surpassed the last strike in 2012, which spanned seven school days.”
So the CTU is further away from Lightfoot’s sympathetic offer than it was from Rahm’s hostile offer. 🤔
*
“There was some good news on Sunday. Chicago Public Schools support staff, covering 7,500 custodians, security guards, bus aides and classroom assistants, reached a tentative contract deal. However, they aren’t expected to return to work until the CTU reaches a deal.”

You decide.
Earlier tonight, CTU rejected a nearly half-billion dollar offer. In addition to double-digit raises for all staff, our offer included another 110M to provide a nurse and social worker for every school, and prioritized support for high-need schools. #PutItInWriting pic.twitter.com/aIhWhqTPGq

vs.
Let’s just cut through the spin from City Hall and get to it: The money our schools need is there. The mayor isn’t bailing out CPS. She’s raiding her CPS piggy bank to avoid taxing the wealthy donors who put her in office.

Gov Likes Likeness
“Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is endorsing legislation that would allow college athletes in the state to make money from endorsements,” AP reports.
“During a Sunday interview on WGN Radio, Pritzker said college athletes deserve the same opportunity as everyone else to earn compensation based on the use of their name and their image and likeness.
“Democratic state Rep. Emanuel Welch of Hillside has introduced legislation that would put Illinois in line with California.”

California has “approved a bill that allows college athletes to earn money through athletic endorsements starting in 2023,” as noted in a previous post, “What If College Athletes Got Paid? 3 Questions Answered.”

Despite President Of The United States
“Trump’s abrupt decision to withdraw American forces from northern Syria disrupted the meticulous planning and forced Pentagon officials to press ahead with a risky, night raid…. Baghdadi’s death…occurred largely in spite of Mr. Trump’s actions.”https://t.co/QVLBkodxo7

A sampling of the delight and disgust you can find @BeachwoodReport.
Now that Trump is going to visit Chicago (unless he chickens out again), it’s worth listening to Trump’s story of the mystery Chicago cop who told him in 2016 that the crime problem here could be in one week just by being tough. Shockingly, Bill O’Reilly is the voice of reason. pic.twitter.com/QloZt69XhT
