Another in an occasional series about the movements of ex-Cubs.
1. Matt Szczur.
The Diamondbacks have signed Mr. Caesar to a minor-league deal and assigned him to the Triple-A Reno Aces.
2. Brandon Hyde.
The Cubs’ bench coach recently got a promotion when the Baltimore Orioles named him their new manager.
3. Dexter Fowler.
Dex was apparently depressed last year, and I say “apparently” because the St. Louis Post-Dispatch put the word “depressed” in quotation marks when it broke the story as if he wasn’t clinically depressed but just down. The article didn’t provide the necessary clarity. Then again, who wouldn’t be depressed going from the Cubs to the Cardinals?
4. Fred McGriff.
The Crime Dog is in his 10th and final year on the Hall of Fame ballot.
5. Joe Smith.
Now with the Astros, Smith is out six to 10 months with a ruptured achilles.
6. Trevor Cahill.
The Angels just signed him out of free agency.
7. Zac Rosscup.
The Mariners just signed him out of free agency.
8. Clayton Richard.
The Padres just designated him for assignment.
