Chicagoetry: I Know I Am About To Be Looking Good

By J.J. Tindall

I KNOW I AM ABOUT TO BE LOOKING GOOD
People: dig
me.
Farmer’s Tan
approaching August
Apex, I’m thinking late
next week.
I fucked up
a self-haircut

last Monday night
and had to
shave my head. Hogan
says I
look younger.
Just got out
of the North Avenue
midday sun, O
thus I shall
shine!
Like the red
grass and black
whores
of Mars!
Ditched my car
six months
ago, lost
twenty fuckin’
pounds.
Boom.
And there’s chatter
in The Industry
that I might
have
a book
deal! Shit!
I smell
MONEY!
And the winter
drinking
weight!
O Dig me
soon, then I’ll try
not
to shine
too bright,
now.
