Chicagoetry: Beachwood Hamlet

By J.J. Tindall

BEACHWOOD HAMLET
What a rogue and peasant slave am I!
Too-literate malcontent, recorder of deeds:
The laws’ delay, the insolence of office.
Yep: sorrows come in battalions, fellas.
Platoons of knave clowns, festooned with
Uncles, o’erwatched my Chinamen. Who now

Bellows “Fie!” upon the squads of Yoricks
Casting false shadows, belching ghastly ballots
From the Dead? Presidents grandfathered by
Murderous incest, mayors crowned by digital
Machines . . . Alas: I am dead. Report me and my
Cause to the unsatisfied. The rest is
Silence.

J. J. Tindall is the Beachwood’s poet-in-residence. He can reached at jjtindall@yahoo.com. Chicagoetry is an exclusive Beachwood collection-in-progress.
