The Cab: Clean, uncluttered, ample legroom. Your standard well-maintained ride. Seatbelts were not easy to locate, which was probably due to the multiple layers of bulky winter clothing encasing the three back-seat occupants.
The Driver: It’s the most competitive night of the year for the cab hailer, so Driver #2529 really didn’t have to wait patiently for three members of the riding party to cross the street. He also didn’t have to end his phone conversation in order to better attend to his passengers’ needs. And he certainly was under no obligation to close the encounter with a genuinely warm wish for a safe and happy new year. He did all these things because, frankly, he seemed like a real peach.
The Driving: It was a short ride consisting of two straight lines and a single left turn. There wasn’t a lot of room for style points, but all basic rules of the road were obeyed – speeds were kept within reason, safe stopping distances were observed, and all street signs with scrupulously obeyed.
Overall rating: 3.5 extended arms
