Chicago - A message from the station manager

The Weekend Desk Report

By Steve Rhodes

I dare Bruce Rauner to claim this under oath. From Doug Finke for the Springfield State Journal-Register:

Monday’s presidential debate between DONALD TRUMP and HILLARY CLINTON drew a Super Bowl-sized viewing audience.
OK, almost Super Bowl-sized. The NFL’s championship game draws about 100 million viewers. But the debate still drew an estimated 84 million, the largest in the history of televised presidential debates.
That audience did not include at least one notable person – Gov. BRUCE RAUNER. Asked the day after the debate if he had watched it, Rauner answered with a terse “I did not,” and that was the end of his availability to the media. He didn’t say what occupied his time instead. Maybe he was continuing to talk to all of those Democratic lawmakers who he says secretly support his positions.

The governor of the country’s fifth-largest state refuses to discuss presidential politics, but public radio’s Amanda Vinicky reminds us that “Earlier this week . . . Rauner also affirmed he would support the Republican nominee.”

Attendees at a Trump fundraiser in Bolingbrook this week: Todd Ricketts, Dan Hampton, WeatherTech CEO David MacNeil, and Mayor Roger Claar.
May their names be inscribed in the history books of life.
*
“Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump was headlining a fundraiser at the home of Bill and Shelley Farley, attended by a group that was 2 to 1 women, according to a Sneed source – as well as legendary Bears coach Mike Ditka and his wife, Diana; comedian Tom Dreesen; Barry and Tracy Mansur; Ron Gidwitz, Todd Ricketts and Sugar Rautbord.”
*
Trump also spoke at the Polish National Alliance here this week.
*
“Trump was at the Alliance for two private meetings at the invitation of the Polish American Congress, PNA official Alicia Kuklinska told the Chicago Sun-Times.
“After the meetings he spoke for 18 minutes in what a pool reporter described as ‘very muted, if not hushed, tones.'”
*
“Will County Board member Steve Balich, R-Homer Glen, said the polling information Trump shared was encouraging,” tronc reports.
“Garry Slabaugh, of Romeoville, said he was excited the candidate he supports was appearing so close to home.
“‘I heard about (the fundraiser) last night, and I could hardly sleep,’ Slabaugh said. ‘My wife wishes she was off today so she could be here.’
“He said he supports Trump because ‘he’s tells the truth.'”
*
“We’re just taking advantage of our time to see him since we couldn’t see him at the rally when he was in Chicago,” Trump supporter Judy Gardner told WBEZ.
“‘I don’t know why he bothers with Illinois to be honest. I really don’t. They’re all losers here,’ said Gardner, referring to Illinois’ history of voting in favor of the Democratic presidential nominee.”
