Intervention Planned By Anti-NATO/G8 Coalition
In the last business hours before the winter holidays, CANG8 – the Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Poverty Agenda – will visit City Hall to offer suggested New Year’s resolutions to Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
“The mayor clearly needs support in developing more constructive ways to deal with stress, including his unfortunate tendency to threaten civil liberties and constitutional rights,” says Pat Hunt of CANG8. “Well, we’re coming to help him liberate himself from his abusive streak by resolving not to be a civil rights scrooge.”
Emanuel’s well-known reputation for abusive behavior surfaced again on December 14, when he asked the City Council for powers that would ruthlessly restrict the constitutionally guaranteed right to freely assemble and voice opposition to the NATO/G8 agenda of war and austerity.
The generals and banksters will gather in Chicago this May. Protesters have outlined four key resolutions Mayor Emanuel can embrace to check his angry elf and end his threatened constitutional abuses for the New Year:
* Resolve to stop trying to squelch the public’s voice.
* Resolve to stop trying to intimidate those planning family-friendly protests through his publicized build-up for heavy handed policing.
* Resolve to stop his campaign to demonize those who might protest, as he constantly portrays protestors as violent.
* Resolve to stop his obstruction of permits and times for rallies and marches.
CANG8 speakers at the holiday humanitarian intervention will include: N’Dana Carter of Southside Together Organizing for Power/Mental Health Movement, who will discuss the dangerous mistake of closing Mental Health Clinics when so many are in need of help, and when the mayor himself could use a good counselor; lawyer Michael Deutsch of the National Lawyers Guild, who will speak on the chilling effect of the mayor’s outbursts; and Joshua Kaunert of Occupy Chicago, who will discuss “Mayor 1%” and his anti-demonstration agenda.
Invited guests for the press conference include the Grinch and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
Judah Maccabee is also invited to remind everyone in the US of the evils of unjust occupations of countries from Afghanistan and Iraq to Libya and Palestine.
WHEN: Thursday, December 22, 10:00 A.M.
WHERE: City Hall, 5th Floor, 118 N. LaSalle St., Chicago
