The Good Wife – starring Julianna Margulies as the wife of a Cook County State’s Attorney (Chris Noth) sent to jail in a sex and corruption scandal – finally premiered last week and we’re here to tell you, it hardly matches up with real politics around here. Here are some plot lines sure to develop.
Here are some plot lines you might see if this was reality TV instead of inferior fiction.
* Noth’s character gets his own show on WLS-AM while his appeal is pending. Spinoff!
* Margulies’ character loses her job at a homeless agency and is forced to eat bugs on Svengoolie for meal money.
* The Cook County Democratic Central Committee installs Bill Beavers as Noth’s replacement. Spinoff!
* Margulies returns to the public defender’s office and is immediately thrown into turmoil when a new client alleging police torture shows her a letter once sent to Noth.
* In a two-part tear-jerker, Tony Peraica makes a guest appearance as an angry county commissioner who leads a drunken mob to election headquarters.
* Noth denies his mistress is a Honey Bear whom he also got appointed to the state cosmetology board.
* Richard M. Daley makes a guest appearance as an angry mayor who makes sure Noth’s/Beavers’ office looks the other way while he makes a mockery of city hiring and contract cronyism. In other words, he plays himself.
* Daley nephew Robert Vanecko joins the cast but claims his uncle had nothing to do with it.
* In a season-ending cliffhanger, an ambitious inspector general decides whether to continue running for U.S. Senate or run for Noth’s old job instead. Will ambition triumph honor? It’s Cook County, what do you think?
