34 years ago, the Replacements signed to Sire & Warner Bros. Just as they inked the deal they played a chaotic gig in Warner’s homebase of LA. Here’s an internal WB report on the gig & more from my book “Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements.” https://t.co/OYgDA3quMZ pic.twitter.com/Uli8chDtrF

Tax Attack
“This April 15 [was] the true start of another mass redistribution of wealth upwards, this one engineered by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017,” Whitney Curry Wimbish writes for The Baffler.
“The effects are so large, James S. Henry, a senior advisor to the Tax Justice Network, told me in an interview last month, that the most appropriate analogue is the physical distribution of land rights to railroad barons two hundred years ago.
“The act’s widely reported hallmark is to reduce the amount corporations must contribute to our collective pot by cutting the corporate income tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. That alone is bad enough . . . ”

Barr Time
“A memo uncovered in the Central Intelligence Agency’s declassified archives shows that during his time at the CIA’s Office of Legislative Council, current Attorney General William P. Barr drafted letters calling for the end of the moratorium on destroying records imposed on the agency ahead of the Church Committee hearings,” Muckrock reports.
Barr Exam
“On Friday the thirteenth October 1989, by happenstance the same day as the ‘Black Friday’ market crash, news leaked of a legal memo authored by William Barr,” Just Security reports.
“He was then serving as head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC). It is highly uncommon for any OLC memo to make headlines. This one did because it was issued in ‘unusual secrecy‘ and concluded that the FBI could forcibly abduct people in other countries without the consent of the foreign state. The headline also noted the implication of the legal opinion at that moment in time. It appeared to pave the way for abducting Panama’s leader, Gen. Manuel Noriega.
“Members of Congress asked to see the full legal opinion. Barr refused, but said he would provide an account that ‘summarizes the principal conclusions.'”
Barr Chamber
“Yes, Trump obstructed Justice. And William Barr is helping him cover it up,” Marcy Wheeler writes for The New Republic.
Also from Wheeler: “Barr has a history of engaging in precisely the kind of cover-up of presidential abuses Glenn [Greenwald] once professed to oppose, fairly epically on Iran-Contra. The cover-up that Barr facilitated on that earlier scandal was the model that Dick Cheney used in getting away with leaking Valerie Plame’s identity and torture and illegal wiretapping . . . ”

Remarkable stat from @peterbakernyt: Trump is only POTUS in Gallup polling history to “never to earn the support of a majority of Americans even for a single day of his term.”
